About · The Club

Our story.

Three decades of easygoing sailing on San Diego Bay — and the friendly, unpretentious community behind it.

History

From liveaboards to yacht club.

Point Loma Yacht Club traces its roots to a group of liveaboards at Marina Cortez in the early 1990s — sailors who valued good company and time on the water over formality and fuss.

The club was officially founded in 1994, and three decades on we’re still the same welcoming crew. Serious racers and recreational boaters share a dock, a start line, and a cold drink after — united by a simple love of being in, on, and around the water.

Today the club runs weekly summer racing, year-round socials, and signature events on San Diego Bay, while supporting youth sailing and charity efforts across the region.
